Joint Degrees and Related Programs
Joint Degrees
The MCB is an interdisciplinary program leading to a Ph.D. degree. Although
the focus of the Program is on research training and intellectual development
leading to this degree, in some circumstances students may wish to combine
additional training with the MCB Ph.D. Program.
The options listed below are approved for MCB students. However, additional
joint programs or degrees may be pursued by receiving approval from the
MCB Directors. After the first year in the MCB program, when the student
begins coursework in an optional program, MCB will not support tuition
costs for these programs. For instance, the MCB Program does not subsidize
tuition for over two credits during Summer Quarters.
The Master of Management (Joint MBA) Program offered at the Bothell campus
charges considerably higher tuition than for normal Tier One graduate
students (such as MCB students). The policy at the U.W. is that a student
pursuing a joint degree will be charged the higher tuition level. Tuition
resources for MCB students cannot support this higher level. Therefore,
students pursuing the joint MBA degree will self-pay the considerable
difference between the two tuition levels.
Related Programs
Also of note is the foundation of a new institute (March 2006), the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM). This institute integrates research efforts at the UW and FHCRC. ISCRM proposes to develop therapies from basic stem cell research. More than half of the ISCRM researchers are also MCB Program faculty. For more information, see the ISCRM Web page.
